WHY EVERY GRADE 10 SHOULD READ THIS

Scarborough is a very creative novel that I could not even compare to any other book I've read. It explores poverty from the perspectives of those who are actually going through it. But it's not just poverty, it's deeper than that. We learn how people end up in these circumstances and how they deal with it. Each character handles their situations very differently. Some with anger and refusal, some with gratefulness, and others work harder than ever to get out of it. But that's only from the perspective of the parents. Some children aren't even fully aware of what is really going on or they believe this is a regular lifestyle because they don't know any better. Some children are just used to being hungry while others will be fed without the knowledge of how hard feeding a child really is for the parents. Although this may seem like only a story, this is a real societal problem that real people deal with everyday. Many privileged kids my age including me, complain about not having a Chanel purse or not having the iPhone X, but this book will hopefully bring them back down to earth. It sure did for me. After reading this book, I realized I am so blessed and need to count my blessings more often.

He began to pace the room like a lion in a cage... Laura couldn't hear anything. All the switches on her body had suddenly turned off. Her arms were numb, and her throat clenched. Cory continued to pace. "You're good, right? You're okay? You're okay, right?"
