Although I wouldn't consider this the most predominant theme, it did reappear often. Racism is discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. In almost all the racism-related parts in this novel, Cory was involved. Cory's thoughts were filled with racial slurs, like his first impression of Ms. Hina, "Fuck, A towelhead."(48). Another person seemed to have a problem with Ms. Hina's hijab as well. Her own boss asked her to not wear it as it's too much of a statement. Racism is one of societies biggest problems which is why I am glad it was brought up during this novel.
